Beach Clean Up Fund
A community effort to reduce solid waste along the beaches of Malpaís, Carmen, Santa Teresa, Hermosa, and Manzanillo—repurposing recovered materials into valuable resources supporting circular economy initiatives.
The Beach Clean Up Project
The southern Nicoya Peninsula is home to some of Costa Rica's most beautiful coastline. But rapid tourism growth and limited waste infrastructure have left these beaches increasingly polluted with plastics, glass, and other debris.
Our Beach Clean Up project tackles this head-on with a dedicated team of five collectors working five days a week to keep our beaches clean and channel waste into recycling and innovative material recovery programs.
Our Process
How It Works
From beach to building material—our circular approach ensures that waste collected from the coastline is transformed into something valuable rather than ending up in a landfill.
1
Collect
Five collectors operate Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., cleaning beaches from Malpaís to Manzanillo.
2
Sort & Weigh
After collection, materials are sorted, weighed, and stored at the Beach Clean Up Station for processing.
3
Recycle & Transform
Problematic plastics go to Pedregal in Heredia for transformation into RESIN8®—an innovative recycled plastic construction material.
4
Conventional Recycling
Glass, metal, and tires follow conventional recycling channels, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Together We Build
This project is made possible through collaboration with organizations committed to environmental stewardship and innovative waste solutions.
