Casa CreSer
Casa CreSer is a local refuge for women and children seeking safety, dignity, and the ability to build new lives. Together, we support the only safe home for women and children on our Peninsula.
Formerly Casa Sonja, Casa CreSer protects and supports teenage mothers and their children, helping them grow together in a safe environment where protection means compassionate care, learning, and opportunities to build a future with purpose. This center has long been the only safe home for women and children on the Nicoya Peninsula–offering a critical service and safe space for families escaping unsafe conditions and violence. On average, there are between 7 – 30 women and children housed at the shelter.
Casa CreSer is now beginning a new phase of its evolution as an organization. They are currently in the process of receiving official PANI certification, which will allow them to operate as a formal provider of essential services and receive families and children in need of care by the Costa Rican government. Through strategic planning and multi-stakeholder interviews with PANI and other child protective services experts, Casa CreSer will focus specifically on providing services to teenage mothers and their children–this will fill a gap that is currently unmet by other PANI-accredited programs in the country.
The center provides a specialized protection model that walks alongside teenage mothers and their children, integrating loving care, education, growing autonomy, and the restoration of rights. It means helping break cycles of violence, hardship, and exclusion, and building a future where children can grow up with dignity, safety, and hope.
Casa CreSer is an eco-village located in Cobano that provides full-time care, housing, education and more for families seeking to rebuild their lives. NPF supports Casa CreSer through fiscal sponsorship, administrative support, and strategic guidance, ensuring this incredible initiative continues to provide critical support to vulnerable families in our community.
