Infrastructure

Escuela ST Classroom Project

A multi-stakeholder initiative, we are transforming our primary local elementary school by adding 5 new classrooms and other infrastructure improvements to ensure all children in Santa Teresa receive a full-day of learning, every day.

Currently, 274 children at Santa Teresa Elementary School attend school for only four hours per day due to a shortage of classrooms. A whole generation of kids is getting “left behind” because of this limited time schedule due to infrastructure constraints. By building 5 new classrooms, a larger dining room, and upgrading septic, electrical, and other systems, all of these children will be able to go to school full-time for a total of 9 learning hours per day. Together, we are changing accessibility and equity for all of our children here in the broader Santa Teresa community.

This project is truly a multi-stakeholder collaboration, and would not be possible without the generous support, both financial and volunteer, from many individuals and organizations. Through generous donor support, the probono architectural services of Arq. Erik Reise and FAMM, the probono engineering services of Ing. Ismael Calderon, and fast-tracked permitting processes granted by the MUNI, NPF was able to work quickly and efficiently to get this project off the ground. In collaboration with the MUNI and the Ministry of Education, the MEP has dedicated 5 new salaried teacher positions to fill the 5 new classrooms, ensuring that not only do students get a full-day education, but that classrooms will be well-managed and staff will not be over-burdened.
