Karen Mogensen Reserve Fund

The Karen Mogensen Reserve currently protects 1,030 hectares, but its borders are at risk. Together, we are helping the reserve to add an additional 4,409 hectares of land into conservation, creating a larger, more resilient corridor for wildlife and protecting standing forest.

Support the Karen Mogensen Reserve

The Karen Mogensen Reserve is a pristine sanctuary of tropical forest teeming with incredible biodiversity. This protected area is not just a forest; it's a critical seed bank for endangered trees and a safe breeding ground for the peninsula's wildlife.

Currently, the reserve protects 2545 acres/1030 hectares, but the lands surrounding its borders are under constant threat from deforestation for development, logging, and agriculture. To safeguard this crucial ecosystem, the Karen Mogensen Reserve has a bold vision: to add an additional 4909 hectares/ 12130 acres of the surrounding forests and pasture lands, effectively tripling the size of the protected area. This expansion will create a larger, more resilient corridor for wildlife by protecting the standing forests and allowing the pasture lands to regenerate naturally.

The reserve has a proven track record, having already tripled its protected area since its founding. Now is the time to help them do it again. The first phase of this ambitious expansion requires $850,000. Your contribution through the Nicoya Peninsula Foundation will go directly toward acquiring and protecting these vulnerable lands. Join us in helping the Karen Mogensen Reserve secure a vibrant future for the Peninsula’s precious ecosystems — the KMR is permanently protected and managed by the Non Profit Ecological Association, ASEPALECO.
