Pet Support Fund

We work with Amigos Perros de Nicoya to address the challenges of overpopulation, abandonment and neglect of our beloved dogs and cats in the greater Santa Teresa and Cobano District areas. We provide essential services through pet neutering campaigns.

Amigos Perros de Nicoya, and their incredible team of dedicated volunteers, is addressing a critical issue in our community: overpopulation, abandonment, and neglect of our dog and cat population.

We are fortunate to share our neighborhoods with countless beautiful dogs and cats in the greater Santa Teresa and Cóbano District areas. However, the joy they bring is often overshadowed by the challenges of finding these sweet creatures loving, stable homes. Too frequently, we encounter adorable litters of puppies and kittens left on the streets. This cycle perpetuates a significant stray pet problem that continues to grow.

Amigos Perros de Nicoya knows that the most effective solution to this issue lies in addressing its root cause through pet neutering campaigns. Amigos Perros hosts multiple pet neutering campaigns throughout the year; and makes sure to host them in different neighborhoods to ensure that all zones receive this service. The pet neutering campaigns are for both pets with owners and stray dogs and cats. Amigos Perros and NPF subsidize this service for pet owners who cannot afford this essential care, and offer transportation and additional support when necessary. The volunteers at Amigos Perros also organize strays to ensure that they not only receive this essential service, but are cared for during the recovery period to keep them in good health. These pet neutering services are offered at public campaigns and through small, local micro-campaigns.

In 2025, Amigos Perros de Nicoya supported over 1,020 pets with pet neutering, medicines, and food.

In 2026, they have a goal to reach 2,000 castrations of local dogs and cats.

Amigos Perros is a grassroots, volunteer organization that organizes these campaigns in service to the community. By donating to the Pet Support Fund at Nicoya Peninsula Foundation, you support Amigos Perros in executing these important services year round. Your donation goes a long way to help create a better life for the dogs and cats of our community.

What does your donation do? Here is a list of options:

$25 provides neutering support for 1 dog/cat*

$100 provides neutering support for approximately 4 dogs/cats*

$250 provides neutering support for approximately 10 dogs/cats*

$500 provides one month of emergency support for stray dogs/cats (that are found injured, etc.)

$1000 provides neutering support for 20 dogs/cats

*Small dogs/cats cost $20 dollars to neuter while larger dogs cost $24 dollars. However, the $25 price reflects additional incidental costs that also go towards supporting a campaign: e.g. transferring pets to the location, food for volunteers, etc.
