Help us support security for the broader Santa Teresa & Cobano District Areas

We will be supporting security from Malpais to Manzanillo in a public/private collaboration with the MUNI and the Police.

CATUZA, ST/MP ADI, and the Nicoya Peninsula Foundation – in collaboration with the MUNI (Ronny Montero) and the Police (Policia Turistica and Fuerza Publica) – are looking to develop a public/private security solution for the Broader Santa Teresa and Cobano District areas. This solution is based off of the successful model in Tamarindo.

This will be a two-phased approach with us initially starting with security cameras and monitoring for our area.

Phase 1 (current phase): Security Cameras and Monitoring Station: Installing 11 security cameras from Malpais to Manzanillo; and installing a monitoring station in Santa Teresa

Phase 2 (later phase): Private Security for the Town: This will include 5 private security individuals who will be patrolling the streets/town from Malpais to Manzanillo between 6pm and 6am + 1 monitoring room operator.

Phase 1 Detail:

  • 11 Cameras: In consultation with the MUNI and the police, we will be installing 10 security cameras between Malpais and Manzanillo plus 1 camera in Cobano.

  • Monitoring Station: We will also be installing a monitoring station at a neutral/secure location in Santa Teresa (exact location still TBD).

  • Monitoring Hours: There will be active monitoring of the cameras from 6pm to 6am, and then passive monitoring/recording during the remaining hours.

  • Additional Cameras: Additional cameras (pending funding) can be added at a later date and will be incorporated into the monitoring network.

  • Security Firm: Installation of the cameras, equipment and monitoring is being handled by a security firm out of San Jose.

Phase 2 Detail:

  • Private security for the town includes 5 private security + 1 monitoring room operator.

  • Private security for the town would patrol the streets from 6pm to 6am.

  • Like in Tamarindo, they would work closely with the Police and the monitoring station.

  • We hope to launch Phase 2 by the end of the year, but could also launch earlier.

  • Timing/launch of Phase 2 is pending funding.
