Help support Casa Sonja’s children & shelter!

Casa Sonja provide protection, personal development, and inclusion for children & mothers in the Cobano District area.

Located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, in one of the world’s rare blue zones, the natural environment plays an important role in this organization. The shelter sits on 4.3 hectares of pristine land, where the sounds of nature ring true and fresh water from the river is abundant. Fundamentals in the day-to-day life of those in our protective community include nutritious organic foods, a sense of community, a peaceful green environment, and an open approach to education and human enlightenment.

However Casa Sonja needs your help.

Casa Sonja is sustained based on the generosity of the community. Only through this generosity can we continue to provide the amazing support and services for our children and mothers! So please consider supporting today!

A bit more about our programs….

The eco-village includes a fully developed agricultural program where children are encouraged to learn how to plant, grow and cook their own organic nutrient-rich food. The children participate in these activities alongside children from neighbouring local schools, fostering a sense of community and inclusion for all. Through these programs, the children develop the lifelong skills required to live a self-sustaining, mindful and independent life needed to re-enter the world with strength and confidence.

As the eco-village focuses on sustainable living, the children are also educated in the different ways in which they may impact their own environment, and how they can respect the wildlife and nature they encounter daily. In addition to basic government education and curriculum, every child has the opportunity, and is encouraged, to join community enrichment days and the various clubs on offer. Some of these include communal beach clean-ups, local art and culture lessons, language courses, surfing and much more. The on-site farm program includes restoration of land, organic farming, permaculture, medicinal garden, caring for happy chickens, learning about –and using- solar electricity
