Free after-school Kids Soccer for Development (S4D) Program for the Southern Nicoya Peninsula

SUPPORT NEW PROJECTS BEING LED BY FUTBOL POR MI PAIS (FxP) FOR THE MAL PAIS, MANZANILLO AND VALLE AZUL AREAS.

Our children are needing more support than ever — particularly given the tragic incident in Manzanillo earlier in the year, as well as general lack of options for kids after school. Futbol por mi Pais is a proven after school program that can really help! They not only support kids through a robust after-school soccer program (helping keep the kids off the street); but they also provide: basic life skills, leadership training, healthy nourishment and community engagement activities.

FxP has brought to Costa Rica a proven Sports for Development (S4D) methodology developed by Futbol con Corazon Colombia more than 15 years ago. The mission of FxP is to empower participants to make better life choices so that they can build a better future for themselves and their community.

The FxP S4D program is built around four core values (Honesty, Tolerance, Respect and Solidarity) that are presented to participants through structured didactic activities on the soccer field. Furthermore, FxP has strategic alliances with leading international S4D programs such as Common Goal in Germany and the UN Football for the Goals initiative.

This tremendous program is already serving over 300 kids in the Santa Teresa, Montezuma, Cobano and Cabuya areas. And we now have the opportunity to bring the program to another 200 kids by expanding into Malpais, Manzanillo and Valle Azul.

At FxP all operational costs are covered by the founders. So 100% of your donation goes to the kids! And at $240 dollars per year, each child participates in:

  • 10 ninety-minutes sessions per month (for free) that involve soccer and real-world leadership skills

  • More than 100 sessions per year!

  • 1 community activity per month

  • Nutritional snack (which helps provide much needed nutrition for the underserved communities)

  • Uniform and Shoes

  • Dedicated professional full-time team that is always there for the kids

  • Sense of purpose and achievement while staying off the streets!

THE PROBLEM: statistics for our children in Costa Rica are staggering!

  • 1 in 3 children in Costa Rica live in poverty

  • 5% live in extreme poverty

  • 46% of children have suffered physical or psychological abuse

  • 30% of children in Costa Rica are overweight or obese.
